James Madison opened up their year with a matchup versus Middle Tennessee, cruising to a 44-7 win. Game two was another big victory, this one 63-7 over Norfolk State. The Dukes had a little trouble with App State in their third outing but still won 32-28.

In the matchup versus Texas State, the Dukes scored points in every quarter on the way to a dominant 40-13 victory. QB Todd Centeio managed 257 yards with an interception and a rush score. Latrele Palmer rushed 27 times for 106 yards and three scores of his own.

Over on the Arkansas State side, they didn’t have any trouble with Grambling State in their opener win 58-3, but then fell 45-12 to Ohio State in game two. The Red Wolves lost again to Memphis 44-32, then fell to Old Dominion 29-26 in game four.

Matched up against LA-Monroe over the weekend, the Red Wolves scored double-digit points in the first three quarters during a 45-28 win. QB James Blackman managed 254 yards with two touchdowns. Brian Snead logged 74 yards and two scores off 17 carries.

PICK: I’m staying with James Madison. The Dukes posted a tepid passing performance in their win over Texas State last weekend and also coughed up three turnovers. That said, James Madison balanced things out with 203 rush yards and 22 first downs in a pretty solid overall effort.

As for Arkansas State, they managed 355 total yards, 22 first downs and a decent 9-of-17 run on third-down tries in their win over LA-Monroe. There’s still plenty to clean up (like the nine penalties and 4.6 yards per play), however.
