The Boise State Broncos and BYU Cougars clash Saturday in a week 10 college football game from Albertsons Stadium.
The BYU Cougars will be out to snap a four-game losing skid after a 27-24 loss to East Carolina last time out, dropping to 4-5 on the year. Jaren Hall’s thrown for 2,245 yards, 21 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 65.6% passing while Christopher Brooks has 463 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns to lead BYU on the ground. Kody Epps leads BYU’s receivers with 39 catches for 459 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns while Keanu Hill has 410 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns as well this season. Puka Nacua also has 382 receiving yards with 3 TDs while BYU has another pair of 200-yard receivers as well this season. On defense, Ben Bywater has a team-high 69 total tackles while BYU’s whole unit has combined for 9 sacks and 6 interceptions.
The Boise State Broncos will hope to keep their winning streak going after making it four wins in a row, improving to 6-2 on the year after a 49-10 win over Colorado State last time out. Taylen Green’s thrown for 862 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 picks on 67.3% passing while also rushing for 258 yards and 5 scores this season to lead the Broncos on the ground. George Holani has a team-high 657 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns while Ashton Jeanty has 400 rushing yards and 5 scores as well. Three different Broncos have 200+ receiving yards, led by Stefan Cobbs who has 22 grabs for a team-high 256 yards this season. On defense, DJ Schramm leads the Broncos with 57 total tackles including 25 solo tackles while Ezekiel Noa and Demitri Washington each have a team-high 4.5 sacks and George Tarias has 4 sacks.
BYU is 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games. Boise State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 non-conference games.
I get the case to be made for BYU here as an underdog, but the issue I have is that BYU’s pass defense has been downright awful over the last month, and it’s been a big reason why the Cougars are riding a four-game losing skid. Boise State’s been going in a completely different direction since switching to Taylen Green at QB and I think the Broncos keep that momentum going with a win and cover in what I see as a 10-point win for Boise State at the end of this one.
