The Tennessee Volunteers and the Clemson Tigers meet Friday, December 30 in college football Orange Bowl action from Hard Rock Stadium. Tennessee enters this matchup at 10-2 overall. The Volunteers beat Vanderbilt in their last game. As for Clemson, they’re currently 11-2 and coming off a blowout win versus North Carolina. Tennessee beat Ball State, Pittsburgh, Akron, Florida, LSU, Alabama, TN-Martin and Kentucky to open up the season, then lost to Georgia. The Vols would then beat Missouri, lose to South Carolina and beat Vanderbilt in the next three outings.

In the Vanderbilt matchup back on November 26, the Volunteers were up 21-0 by halftime. Tennessee scored another 35 points from there and won 56-0. Jaylen Wright and Dylan Sampson did most of the offensive work, combining for 291 rush yards and three scores.

Over on the Clemson side, they beat Georgia Tech, Furman, LA Tech, Wake Forest, NC State, Boston College, Florida State and Syracuse in their first eight games. The Tigers lost to Notre Dame and South Carolina over the next four games, then took out North Carolina in the ACC title matchup.

Clemson didn’t have a ton of trouble with the Tar Heels in their game on December 3. The Tigers scored 24 points in the first half and cruised to a 39-10 win. QB Cade Klubnik managed 279 yards with a TD, and Cole Turner caught three balls for 101 yards.

The Volunteers are 4-0 ATS in their last four Friday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games. Tennessee is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 overall

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four bowl games and 20-6 ATS in their last 26 neutral-site games. Clemson is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 in December.

PICK: I may try Tennessee here. The Volunteers are riding high off a blowout win versus Vanderbilt, posting 513 yards (362 rushing), 9.7 yards per play and zero turnovers along the way. Tennessee has bounced back well offensively following their 13 points versus Georgia, notching 38 or more points in three straight games.

As for Clemson, they put up 385 yards (317 passing) against North Carolina in a fairly uncomplicated win back on December 3. The Tigers have hit 30 or more points in four straight games and should score pretty well here also. This one looks like a shootout, and I think Tennessee can hang around. Should be fun.
