The Michigan Wolverines and Illinois Fighting Illini meet Saturday in week 12 Big Ten college football action from Michigan Stadium. Illinois is fresh off a game versus Purdue. In that matchup the Illini fell by a touchdown. As for Michigan, they played Nebraska last weekend. The Wolverines won that game in a blowout. Illinois went 7-1 over their first eight games this year, losing to Indiana while otherwise taking out Wyoming, Virginia, Chattanooga, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. The Illini took a 23-15 loss to Michigan State in their ninth outing.

Back on Saturday versus Purdue, the Illini posted another tough loss thanks to a bad fourth quarter. Illinois had a 21-21 tie going into the final frame but came away with a 31-24 defeat. QB Tommy Devito threw for 201 yards, one TD and one pick in the loss.

Over on the Michigan side, they rolled through their first nine games. The Wolverines took out Colorado State, Hawaii, UConn, Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Penn State, Michigan State and Rutgers in succession during that stretch.

In their last game versus Nebraska, the Wolverines scored in every quarter. Michigan held a 17-3 halftime lead and ended up winning 34-3. JJ McCarthy threw for 129 yards and two scores, while Blake Corum rushed 28 times for 162 yards and a TD.

The Illini are 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in the last seven in November. Illinois is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 on turf.
Meanwhile, the Wolverines are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four overall and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six in November. Michigan is 16-4-1 ATS in their last 21 on turf.

PICK: I have to go with Michigan here. Illinois has had back-to-back losses for the first time this year, and they’re quickly losing steam on the national stage. The Illini went just 5-of-13 on third downs in the Purdue game and committed 12 penalties for 121 yards, both of which had a big impact on the final score.

As for Michigan, they continue to take care of business on the field. The Wolverines posted 412 total yards against Nebraska (who had just 146 themselves) along with 27 first downs and just one penalty. Michigan has a sizable advantage in this game, they just need to execute at home.
