The UConn Huskies and Marshall Thundering Herd do battle Monday in the college football Myrtle Beach Bowl from Brooks Stadium. Marshall is 8-4 on the year and took out Georgia State in their last game. As for UConn, they managed to go 6-6 overall. The Huskies lost to Army in their most recent appearance. Marshall put up a 3-3 run across their first half-dozen games of the season. The wins in that time were over Norfolk State, Notre Dame and Gardner-Webb. A nice 5-1 run followed featuring wins over James Madison, Old Dominion, App State, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.

In the Georgia State game on November 26, Marshall was down 17-14 going into the final quarter. The Herd scored 14 in that last frame and took a 28-23 win. Cam Fancher posted 208 pass yards with two scores, while Khalan Laborn had 100 rush yards with two TDs.

Over on the UConn side, they were just 2-4 after six games. The wins came versus only Central CT State and Fresno State. UConn finished out with a 4-2 stretch, taking out FIU, Boston College, UMass and Liberty along the way.

On November 19 versus Army in their last appearance, the Huskies gave up points in every quarter on the way to a 34-17 loss. QB Zion Turner had 116 yards and two picks. Victor Rosa led the rushing attack on 111 yards and a score off 12 carries.

Marshall is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 on grass and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 bowl games. The Herd is 0-5 ATS in their last five in December.

Meanwhile, the Huskies are 5-0 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall. UConn is 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Marshall I suppose. The Herd had some trouble getting past a not-so-great Georgia State team in their last outing, but still managed 486 total yards and 25 first downs. After a two-game span with only 25 combined points, Marshall has posted 23 or more in three straight outings.

As for UConn, they had a nice three-game win streak snapped by a sketchy performance versus Army in their last game. The Huskies are capable of putting up points under the right circumstances (they’ve got 21 or more in four of the last six) but I think they’ll keep fairly close here.
