Southern Miss vs Georgia State 11/5/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and Georgia State Panthers do battle Saturday in week 10 college football action from Roberts Stadium. Georgia State played Old Dominion in their last outing. The Panthers ended up winning by two touchdowns. As for Southern Miss, they took on Louisiana in their last game. In that matchup the Eagles managed a 15-point victory. Georgia State kicked off the year with four straight losses to South Carolina, North Carolina, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina. The Panthers rebounded with wins over Army and Georgia Southern but then fell 42-17 to App State in game seven. 

Matched up against Old Dominion, Georgia State came out of the break with a 14-14 tie game. The Panthers scored 14 points in the third quarter and held on for the 31-17 win. Quarterback Darren Grainger put up 195 yards with one score, and also led the rush with 104 yards and a TD on 19 carries. 

Over on the Southern Miss side, they went 2-2 over their first four games this year with losses to Liberty and Miami-FL before wins versus Northwestern State and Tulane. The Eagles would then fall to Troy before taking out Arkansas State and Texas State. 

In the Louisiana game last Thursday, Southern Miss jumped out to a 29-11 lead after one half. The Eagles were outscored by three points from there in a 39-24 victory. QB Zach Wilcke managed 137 yards, two scores and a pick. Jason Brownlee caught both TDs with 102 yards on three grabs. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Georgia State. The Panthers posted a nice overall effort in their win over Old Dominion this past weekend. Georgia State finished with 413 total yards, 24 first downs and 37:10 in time of possession. Defensively the Panthers held the Monarchs to 283 total yards and just 11 first downs. 

As for Southern Miss, they were out-gained 439-339 by Louisiana over the weekend, but had the running game working well with a 150-69 advantage in yardage. I like this weekend’s matchup to be close for most of the game; this should be a fun one.
