Tulane got off to a nice start this year with wins over UMass, Alcorn State and Kansas State. After a loss to Southern Miss, the Wave beat Houston, East Carolina, South Florida and Memphis in succession over the next four outings.

In the Memphis matchup, the Wave jumped out to a commanding 35-0 lead by halftime. Tulane took their foot off the gas pedal in the second half but still won 38-28. QB Michael Pratt put up 158 yards and a score, while Tyjae Spears rushed 24 times for 125 yards and a TD.

Over on the Tulsa side, they went 2-1 over the first three outings this year with wins over Northern Illinois and Jacksonville State after a loss to Wyoming. The Hurricane lost to Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Navy before a win over Temple in their next four games.

In the SMU matchup, the Hurricane took a 24-7 deficit into halftime, then gave up 21 third-quarter points in a 45-34 defeat. Quarterback Braylon Braxton finished with 120 yards and two scores. Deneric Prince rushed 19 times for 86 yards to lead the rush.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Tulane. The Wave had a great first half against Memphis in their last game, ultimately posting 344 total yards (186 rushing, 19 first downs and zero turnovers. Tulane has been scoring quite well lately; they’ve hit 24 or more points in each of the last five games. The defense has been hit and miss, but they’ve gotten the job done.

As for Tulsa, they got better as the SMU game went on and were able to put up some cosmetic points late. The Hurricane were outmatched pretty much the whole way, though. This weekend’s outing will be another tricky game for Tulsa.
