The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Wagner Seahawks square off Saturday in a week 2 college football contest from SHI Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Wagner Seahawks will be looking to rebound from a 48-31 loss to Fordham to start the season. Nick Kargman threw for 218 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 13 of 32 passing while Rickey Spruill had a team-high 58 rushing yards and a touchdown. Nalem Simmons led the Seahawks in receiving with 8 grabs for 162 yards and a score while Jayvin Little also added a touchdown grab as well in the losing effort. On defense, Christian Davis had an interception and a fumble recovery while John Gioia had a sack and Titus Leo had 4 TFLs in the losing effort.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will hope to build on their 22-21 come-from-behind season-opening win over Boston College last time out. Evan Simon’s thrown for 63 yards with a 66.7% completion percentage and Gavin Wimsatt has 47 passing yards and an interception. Kyle Monangai leads Rutgers in rushing with 78 rushing yards and a score and Al-Shadee Salaam has 53 rushing yards and a TD as well. Johnny Langan leads Rutgers in receiving with 25 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Christian Izien has a team-high 10 total tackles while Tyreem Powell has a pair of interceptions and Robert Longerbeam and Christian Braswell each have an interception this season.

Wagner is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games played on turf. Rutgers is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 home games.

I’ll give Rutgers credit for how they took it to Boston College late and rallied for that win, but this is extreme. Wagner may not be very good, but I can’t in good conscience tell anyone to go anywhere near Rutgers laying what Michigan’s laying against Hawaii this week, it’s just not realistic. I don’t even know if Rutgers is going to get to 30 or 35 let alone 50 here. As bad as Wagner may or may not be, I can’t give up this kind of number. Give me Wagner and the points.
