The Houston Cougars and Kansas Jayhawks clash Saturday in week 3 college football action from TDECU Stadium. Kansas is coming off a matchup versus West Virginia. In that game the Jayhawks bagged an overtime win. As for Houston, they just finished up versus Texas Tech. The Cougars ended up losing a tough one in overtime. Kansas played Tennessee Tech in their opening game of the 2022 season. The Jayhawks didn’t have much trouble in that one, scoring 35 points in the first half on the way to a 56-10 blowout win. RB Devin Neal rushed four times for 108 yards and two scores in the victory.

In game two versus West Virginia, Kansas was down by seven at the break and eventually came back to bag a 55-42 win in overtime. QB Jalon Daniels managed 219 yards and three pass scores, while Daniel Hishaw and Devin Neal combined for four rush TDs.

Over on the Houston side, they played a tricky UTSA team in their opener and barely escaped with a 37-35 victory in triple overtime. QB Clayton Tune put up 206 yards with three touchdowns and also led the rush with 51 yards and a score from 15 carries.

Matched up against Texas Tech in their second game, Houston came back from a 14-point halftime deficit to force OT. The Cougars ultimately fell short however, losing 33-30 in double overtime. Tune finished on 266 yards, one TD and one pick.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Kansas, but staying away. The Jayhawks gave up a ton of yardage (505) and first downs (27) against West Virginia in game two, but the team was able to hang on for the overtime victory. Kansas managed 419 total yards themselves with 6.4 yards per play, 24 first downs and 11-of-15 on third-down tries.

As for Houston, they had several issues on both sides of the ball during their tough loss versus Texas Tech. The Cougars had just 15 first downs, 11 penalties and two turnovers in a frustrating outcome. I like Houston to bounce back in this one, but I think Kansas can sneak in for a cover if they’re playing well.
