The Kent State Golden Flashes and LIU Sharks do battle Saturday in week 3 college football action from Dix Stadium. LIU is fresh off a matchup versus Villanova. In that one the Sharks lost by 17 points. As for Kent State, they played Oklahoma in their last outing. The Flashes wound up falling in a blowout. LIU’s season started out rough with a blowout 37-0 loss to Toledo. The Sharks gave up 17 points in both the second and fourth quarters during the defeat. Patrick Bowen led a sketchy rush with 38 yards, and Derek Green went 7-of-16 for 32 yards and a pick.

In game two versus Villanova, the Sharks gave up points in every quarter during a 38-21 loss. Green logged 230 yards with two scores and two picks. Michael Love led the receivers with seven grabs for 61 yards and Bowen had 53 rush yards on eight carries.

Over on the Kent State side, they kicked off their season with a matchup versus Washington. The Flashes fell behind early and ended up with a 45-20 defeat. QB Collin Schlee finished on 178 yards, one TD and two INTs.

Over the weekend versus Oklahoma, Kent State was down by just four points at halftime but the team didn’t score after the break in a 33-3 loss. Schlee finished with 131 yards, and Marquez Cooper led the rush with 22 carries for 55 yards.

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Kent State here but not touching it. All things considered, the Flashes did pretty well against Oklahoma last weekend in a game they were never going to win. Kent State posted 295 total yards and 20 first downs, going 6-of-16 on third-down tries. The defense also held the Sooners to 3-of-12 on their own third-down plays, but they were overcome by the 430 total yards and 6.7 yards per play from Oklahoma. This should be much more favorable matchup for the Flashes, and the experience from that game should serve the team well.
