Week 5: Army vs Georgia State 10/1/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Army Black Knights and Georgia State Panthers do battle Saturday in week 5 college football action from Michie Stadium.

The Georgia State Panthers will be looking to rebound after a 41-24 loss to Coastal Carolina in their last matchup, falling to 0-4 on the year as a result. Darren Grainger has thrown for 871 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while Tucker Gregg has a team-high 225 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns as one of 4 Panthers with 100+ rushing yards this season. Jamari Thrash leads Georgia State with 21 grabs for 381 yards while Robert Lewis has 13 catches for 271 yards and 5 touchdowns. On defense, Jordan Veneziale has a team-high 36 total tackles while Georgia State’s defensive unit has 7 sacks and Quavian White has 3 interceptions.

The Army Black Knights will be looking to build on their 49-10 win over Villanova that preceded their bye week last week. Ay’Jaun Marshall has a team-high 141 receiving yards coming on 4 catches with a pair of scores and Braheam Murphy has 115 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Leo Lowin has a team-high 27 total tackles including 14 solo tackles and Andre Carter II has a pair of sacks this season.

Georgia State is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. Army is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win.

I get the case to be made on both sides here, but I’m honestly looking at the over. Both sides have been porous defensively for much of this season, and I’m not expecting much of anything to be different here. I look for Georgia State’s offense to get theirs and for Army’s option to rule the day so give me the over in this one.
