The UTEP Miners and FAU Owls clash Saturday in a week 8 C-USA college football game from the Sun Bowl.
The FAU Owls will look to build off of their 17-14 win over Rice to improve to 3-4 on the year. N’Kosi Perry has thrown for 1.638 yards, 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 56.3% passing while Larry McCammon has a team-high 617 rushing yards with 3 touchdowns and Zuberi Mobley also has 347 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns this season. LaJohntay Wester has a team-high 467 receiving yards and 43 receptions along with a team-high 8 touchdowns while Jahmal Edrine has 337 receiving yards and Je’Quan Burton has 299 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Eddie Williams has a team-high 65 total tackles with 2.5 sacks while FAU as a unit has 16 sacks and interceptions this season.
The UTEP Miners will be looking for a bounce back after falling to 3-4 on the year following their 41-31 loss to Louisiana Tech last time out. Gavin Hardison has thrown for 1,586 yards, 8 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 51.1% passing while Ronald Awatt has a team-high 431 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Miners on the ground and Deion Hankins has 341 rushing yards and a pair of scores as well. Tyrin Smith has a team-high 39 grabs for 616 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns while Reynaldo Flores has 33 grabs for 393 receiving yards. On defense, Tyrice Knight has a team-high 59 total tackles and Kobe Hylton has 56 total tackles with Knight logging 34 solo tackles while Kobe Hylton has a team-high 36 solo tackles this season. Jadrian Tarloy also has a team-high 5 sacks and Cal Wallerstedt and Bryton Thompson each have 3 sacks.
FAU is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 1-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a win while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. UTEP is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 October while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
I get the reasoning for FAU being favored on the road, but what I’m having issues with is the fact that FAU’s 0-3 SU on the road this season, and while that includes close losses to Purdue and Ohio, the losses to Ohio and North Texas saw the Owls lose outright as favorites. UTEP’s no world beater by any means, but they’ve performed fairly well at home and usually put forth strong efforts this time of year. I’ll take my chances with UTEP and the points.
