New Mexico Lobos Vs. Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners Free Pick 8/31/13

The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners travel to University Stadium to face the New Mexico Lobos.

If experience counts for any thing then the Roadrunners are in very good shape with 18 players back. Texas-San Antonio finished 8-4 against a semi weak schedule and face some tougher opponents in 2013. The good news is the offense that averaged 390 yards and 31 points has ten players back with quarterback Eric Soza leading the way with nearly 2,100 passing yards and a 20/3 touchdown to interception ratio. Soza liked to spread the ball around with ten players totaling between 125-350 receiving yards. David Glasco and Evans Okotcha combined for 117 carries and 987 yards with Okotcha leading the team with 24 receptions for 349 yards. The defense gave up 380 yards and almost 29 points and struggled against the pass with over 270 yards allowed.

New Mexico was hit hard by graduation with only ten starters back but the good news is the ground and pound attack of the Lobos might not miss a beat. They lose QB BR Holbrook who threw for 647 yards but was a non factor on the ground. Cole Gautsche took over as the starter late and was a non factor through the air but added 760 yards on the ground as a freshman and might be the better fit. The key to the Lobos success will be Kasey Carrier (255-1469) who will shoulder the offense so he has to stay healthy, although UNM has several players that can step in and provide adequate production. The worry for New Mexico is on the defensive side of the football that gave up 444 yards and 30 points which makes keeping the ball away from opposing attacks a priority.

There is absolutely no doubt what the key to winning is here. If New Mexico can run they will probably win and if not, they are in deep trouble because thiteming the ball is not their specialty. For now I’m looking at the Lobos and will keep this under watch…
