Louisville Cardinals vs. Florida International Golden Panthers Free Pick 9/21/13

Fresh off another impressive win, the undefeated, 7th ranked Louisville Cardinals play host to the 0-3 Florida International Panthers Saturday at noon.
Florida International’s struggles out of the gate this season came to a head this past weekend as the 1-AA Bethune Cookman Wildcats visited the Panthers and came away with an easy 34-13 victory. The Panthers continue to struggle to move the ball as quarterback Jake Medlock was 9-15 for 149 yards, a TD and a pick. Medlock struggled to get going all game and the FIU offense stalled to a dismal 229 total yards. FIU allowed the Wildcats to own a 9 minute time of possession advantage and continued to doom themselves with penalties, racking up 60 yards on 6 different offenses. Receiver TJ Lowder chipped in 125 yards and a TD on just 6 carries for FIU — the lone bright spot for the Panthers on a season that continues to unravel further by the week.
Louisville enters this contest after moving to 3-0 with a convincing 28-14 win over in-state rival Kentucky. The Cardinals high octane offense racked up 492 yards and were once again led by the play of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who threw for 250 yards and a TD — his least gaudy statistical outing of the season. Senorise Perry added 9 yards a carry on his way to 100 yards and two TD’s and DeVante Parker managed a TD despite a quiet day yardage wise. Lost in yet another impressive offensive outing was the continued strong play of the Louisville defense who held Kentucky to a season low in points and just 376 yards of total offense. The Louisville defense now ranked 4th in the nation in points allowed at 9.0 per game.
Some trends to consider — FIU is 4-10-1 against the spread in their last 15 games after an ATS loss and Louisville is 13-3 against the spread in their last 6 versus C-USA teams.
This game has over by halftime written all over it. One of the most potent offenses in the country and one of the best total defenses versus one of the worst teams in 1-A. I like the Cardinals to jump all over FIU quickly and this one to get out of hand quickly. Look for a 3+ touchdown game for Teddy Bridgewater and the Louisville D to tee-off on Jake Medlock early and often as the Cardinals get the easy cover at home on their way to 4-0.
