Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks vs. Tulane Green Wave Free Pick - 9/28/13

The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks host the Tulane Green Wave at Malone Stadium Saturday.
I thought Tulane had a shot to go Bowling before the season began if they won the games they should and pull off an upset here or there. The Green Wave needed a big upset against Syracuse but those chances were slim and none and none won out in a 52-17 thrashing. Not much to say when you are trailing 42-17 after 30 minutes except the defense was over matched with the offense following suit. The numbers tell the story with only 330 yards to their credit with some ability to run which was abandoned because of the scoreboard. Nick Montana (22-28/213) had a nice ball control air attack going but Tulane needed more production down field with the Orange scoring at will in the first 30 minutes.
Louisiana-Monroe was highly regarded in 2012 but many of the faces that made the Warhawks a tough out are departed. I don’t know how much of a difference it would have meant if those players were still on the roster to face Baylor last Saturday with the Bears completely dominating ULM 70-7. Baylor led 49-7 heading in to the locker room with the out come never in doubt as they amassed a 781-295 advantage in real estate. If the Warhawks ever needed a productive running attack this was the day but 75 yards and a two yard average didn’t fit the bill. Kolton Bitemning misfired on some thitems in a 17-41 effort for 219 yards but he could have thitemn for 500 yards and it wouldn’t have mattered. Toss in four turnovers and the Bears simply stepped on the gas and didn’t ease up.
I don’t think Tulane can win this but neither team is night and day different from the other. Having said that the line is about where I expected which makes this a toss up so I’d rather take the points and hope for a competitive contest…
