Massachusetts Minutemen vs. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks Free Pick - 10/12/13

The Miami (Ohio) Redhawks travel East to face the Massachusetts Minutemen in Saturday action.
It’s already been a long year for Miami (Ohio) football fans who have watched their team struggle through an 0-5 start to 2013 following a 21-9 defeat at the hands of visiting Central Michigan. The Redhawks have struggled on both sides of the ball but played solid defense against the Chippewas except the offense didn’t follow suit with both teams accumulating 294 yards. The rushing attack produced 123 yards with Austin Gearing responsible for 108 yards on 15 carries. Austin Boucher struggled through the air with a 12-26 effort for 161 yards with a touchdown. The difference here is Central Michigan made some plays when they smelled the end zone.
The question for Massachusetts is the same as last season; will they win a game? The Minutemen are really struggling to find the end zone with seven points per game while allowing 31 points which are not numbers that are conducive to winning. Both trends continued in a 28-7 loss to Bowling Green with the Falcons holding a 448-280 edge in yardage. UMass had some good runs and totaled 184 rushing yards for just under a six yard average with Jamal Wilson leading the way with with a 20 carry, 119 yard effort. The passing game wasn’t quite on par with the run with AJ Doyle going 4-17 for 20 yards before Matt Wegzyn came on to go 7-8 for 76 yards with a touchdown and interception.
This is obviously not made for TV with plenty of problems to go around for both teams. I really don’t have an advantage to exploit except UMass is home and whether that means a thing is open for argument. My advice is to look elsewhere…
