The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Penn State Nittany Lions meet Saturday, October 24 in college football action from Beaver Stadium.

Ohio State is coming off a near-perfect season in 2019, going 13-1 with a flawless 9-0 mark in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes took out Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game but ultimately fell against Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl CFP Semifinal 29-23. As for Penn State, they had a great run as well last year with an 11-2 overall record and 7-2 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions earned an invite to the Cotton Bowl Classic, where they dispatched Memphis 53-39. Ohio State doesn’t have a whole lot to complain about when it comes to 2019—outside of that final game anyway. The Buckeyes were projected to finish behind Michigan in the East Division, but to their credit they stormed out of the gate and never looked back, holding a No. 1 national ranking for three weeks during the year. The misfire (and blown lead) in the Fiesta Bowl is unfortunate, but Ohio State can still look on their big wins (not to mention Big Ten Championship) with happiness. In 2020, Ohio State gets head coach Ryan Day back for his second season, and after 46.9 points and 529.9 yards per game last year he’s got some big expectations. JK Dobbins and a host of other talented players have moved on, but the Buckeyes get Justin Fields and what should be another solid defensive unit back this season.

Over on the Penn State side, they opened up with eight straight wins last season and were ranked as high as No. 4 before losing to Minnesota in a road upset. The Ohio State loss a couple of games later was probably inevitable, given that the Buckeyes had a charmed regular season and were a thorn in the Nittany Lions’ side pretty much the whole way. In any case, Penn State head coach James Franklin is back for his seventh season, and he gets a new OC in Kirk Ciarrocca. That crew will return a host of big-impact names including Micah Parsons, Pat Friermuth and Sean Clifford, and though it may take the offense a few games to get adjusted they’re not going to deviate from the formula. Expect a healthy dose of RB Journey Brown this season as well.

Pick: I like Penn State. I expect this game to be close, relatively speaking in comparison to last year anyway. Though the Nittany Lions have some adjustments to make with a new scheme, they’ve got a pretty good crop of experience returning and should gather form quickly. By the time this game rolls around, both teams should be playing well and I expect this matchup to go down to the wire. I think the Nittany Lions can get in there. Should be a must-see game.
