The Texas A&M Aggies and Buffalo Bulls take the floor in the season opener for both squads.
Buffalo has been a challenger in the MAC for awhile but last season was a major disappointment with the team finishing at 14-20 which cost HC Reggie Witherspoon his job. Bobby Hurley of Duke fame was hired and he actually walks in to a pretty good situation with the Bulls getting back most of their major contributors. That might or might not be a good thing with UB struggling on the defensive end of the floor but the return of all everything forward Javon McCrea who averaged 18 points and eight rebounds while hitting at a 59% clip to earn All MAC honors. Will Regan adds another eleven points and nearly 4.5 rebounds while JC transfer Justin Moss adds more size in a frontcourt that should be able to score, rebound and defend.

Fans of fast paced, up and down, scoreboard lighting basketball probably avoided watch Texas A&M who preferred to milk the clock and slow things to a crawl which might have been a style suited to their personnel. The Aggies did finish at 18-15 with virtually no perimeter game to lean on as they liked to keep things closer to the basket. Not a bad idea if you can keep things close or play with the lead but not so good if the team fell behind and was forced to play catch up. The Aggies will miss Elston Turner who simply did not turn the ball over which is priority number one for a team that doesn't have many possessions with which to work. The guard heavy squad will emphasize protecting the ball with Fabyon Reese also able to score with a 12 point average a year ago. Points will be a valuable commodity and might be a scoring by committee scenario with newcomer Antwan Space (Florida State) and Kourtney Roberson hopefully giving A&M some inside muscle at forward.
For me Buffalo is the biggest mystery with a veteran nucleus that vastly under performed a year ago. Thet will be tested by the Aggies slower pace and I'd be lying if I said I would be surprised by anything that happened here...
