The Line: UCLA Bruins-12 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Drexel Dragons make the long trip out west to take the court with the #23 UCLA Bruins.
Drexel and head coach Bruiser Flint finished 13-18 a season ago after winning the Colonial one year prior. The reasons are varied but the bottom line was injuries to key players hurt them badly and their inability to score consistently was also an obvious issue. The Dragons have long been known for their defensive prowess and that hasn't changed but at some point the ball has to go in the basket and perhaps a healthy team can get that done. Guard Chris Fouch averaged nearly eleven points in 2011-12 but played just 81 minutes a year ago forcing fellow guards Franz Massenet (14.7 ppg) and Damion Lee (17 ppg) to carry the scoring burden which was just too much to expect at times.

UCLA comes in to the season ranked #23 despite firing head coach Ben Howland even though the Bruins won the PAC 12 title. UCLA went on to lose in the opening round of the NCAA's to Minnesota which probably was too much for the school to handle for a team that was believed to be capable of making some noise. The Bruins hired Steve Alford away from New Mexico and handed him a huge contract and a talented roster that should challenge for the conference title. Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams will be counted on to do some damage offensively while Norman Powell moves from the bench to a starting role so expect more then 6 ppg from him. Adams looks to be 100% recovered from the broken foot that robbed him of the NCAA Tournament but overall I wonder if all the drama of coaching changes and players leaving a season ago still has lingering effects.
I know Drexel well and they will be crushed in a shootout. The Dragons can't compete with the Bruins size and need to avoid mistakes and make shots to cover because winning is not realistic. I am really pushing the envelope in this one...
