The 1-0 Yale Bulldogs hope to carry over their hot shooting to Monday afternoon as they visit the 18th ranked Connecticut Huskies in the Connecticut 6 tip off tournament from Storrs at 3PM.

Yale got their first win over Central Connecticut State this past Friday as they rode a red hot second half that saw them outscore CCSU 53-37 en route to their 93-77 win.  CCSU built a 7 point halftime lead before Justin Sears and Armani Cotton took over and fueled the Bulldog rally.  The duo finished with 43 points and 19 rebounds combined and helped contribute to Yale’s +11 rebounding advantage.  The Bulldogs shot 54% from the floor and 47% from deep.  The Bulldogs will face a much stiffer in-state challenge Monday in the Huskies and their elite backcourt.

UConn got to 1-0 at the Barclay’s center Friday night as they nearly gift wrapped a comeback win for the Maryland Terrapins but were able to get key stops late to squeak out the 78-77 win.  Connecticut played very strong basketball for about 30 minutes in this one before finding ways to let the Terrapins back in the game every possession.  Shabazz Napier scored 18 points and added 7 rebounds and 7 assists before fouling out late and newcomer big man Amida Brimah impacted the game with his length and interior defense with 3 blocks at key moments in the second half.  The Huskies shot 51.7% for the game and registered 10 steals against MD’s point-guard less offense.

Yale was quite impressive in the second half of their opener, but their ability to create offense will be much more limited against a quality UConn defense.  Look for the Bulldogs to try and slow things down but ultimately for Boatwright and Napier to control the pace in this one as the Huskies retain state bragging rights with the easy win and cover at home.
