The Davidson Wildcats and the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers face off on Monday in college basketball action as both teams look for their first win of the 2-13-2014 season.
The Davidson Wildcats opened their season in a tough spot on Friday as they were up against it facing Duke at Cameron Indoor Arena. Davidson was really no match for Duke and despite putting 77 points on the board Davidson was blown out y 34 points. Even with the tough start Davison figures to be a factor this year in the SoCon and should be in the NCAA Tournament once again. De’Mon Brooks is the Wildcats best player as he showed on Friday scoring 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Tom Droney scored 16 against Duke. Brian Sullivan scored seven but he was just 1 for 8 from beyond the three point arc. Davidson shot 41.9 percent but they were just 3 of 21 from three=point land but they were an effective 88 percent from the free throw line. Statistically Duke dominated most notably shooting 61.9 percent from the three point arc but it is tough to look too deep into that number as there are just few teams in the nation with the ability to put in three pointers like Duke.

The Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers opened their season on the road at Loyola-Chicago and while they were tied at the half, the end result was a two-point loss. Milwaukee doesn’t have a ton of depth this season and only six players saw significant minutes in the first game. Matt Tiby scored 21 points shooting 50 percent from the floor and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line while also hauling in 8 rebounds. Kyle Kelm scored 13 points hitting 6 of his nine shots with all three misses coming from three point territory and Austin Arians tossed in 11 points. Milwaukee outrebounded Loyola and while the Panther missed just one free throw going 16 of 17, they allowed 33 free throws so even at 63.6 percent from the line this is where Loyola made the difference. This should be a tougher matchup for the Panthers though they did defeat Davidson last year 73-68 at home.
Davidson is 5-1 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games. Milwaukee is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record.
This is a big number for this game and while I see Davidson getting the win it is probably closer than this number in what is just a lean for me.
