The Oklahoma Sooners and the North Texas Mean Green face off on Monday in a college basketball matchup of teams who won their season openers.
The Oklahoma Sooners went into their game against the Alabama Crimson Tide as underdogs but Lon Kruger’s team laid 82 points on Bama en route to an outright win in Dallas. The Sooners beat the Tide in every aspect of the game and it was reflected in the nine point differential on the scoreboard despite trailing by a point at the half. Buddy Heild came up big against the Tide scoring 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, with three steals. Ryan Spangler had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Cameron Clark had 14 points, six rounds, and three blocks. Jordan Woodward was just 2 of 11 from the floor but he scored 10 points and had seven assists. OU shot 44.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and they hit 76 percent of their free throws.

The North Texas Mean Green weren’t overly impressive in their season opener against Northwood (TX) winning 72-67 but they will gladly take the win. UNT was ice cold from beyond the three-point arc and if they hope it is a big part of their offense they are going to need to improve in that area. Alzee Williams led the Mean Green in scoring with 22 points in 30 minutes but the rest of his stat sheet was pretty empty. Chris Jones had 13 points and six rebounds and Brandon Walton has 13 points and eight rebounds with three steals. Jordan Williams got in on the action with nine points and 10 rebounds. North Texas shot a dismal 36.2 percent from the floor, 17.6 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 61.3 percent from the free throw line and if they put up similar percentages here they aren’t going to be so fortunate in the result.
Oklahoma is 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 home games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 1-4 against the spread against Conference USA. North Texas is 7-2-1 against the spread against the Big 12, 4-11-1 against the spread in their last 16 road games, and 2-6 against the spread following a win.
This is a big number but it isn’t big enough to contain the Sooners who should dominate this one.
