The MAC meets the AAC when the Kent State Golden Flashes take the floor with the Temple Owls.
Kent State is one of several teams that is penciled in as a challenger in the MAC. Having said that the Golden Flashes did exactly what they should have in their opener versus Ohio Northern and that was to hammer the Polar Bears 84-48. This one was decided by the half with Kent leading 41-20 as they were clearly to big and quick for the visitors. KSU held Ohio Northern to 29% from the field and forced 24 giveaways while owning the glass 44-32. On the flip side the Golden Flashes connected at 47% from the floor as they cleared the bench with 12 players scoring. Derek Jackson paced the offense with 18 points with Darren Goodson adding eleven points and six boards.

Heading in to their season opener with Penn the question was where would the points come from with a ton of talent and production gone. The worry seemed to be for nothing after the Owls walked away with a 78-73 victory over their city rivals. The Owls didn't reach 40% shooting but did hit 18-24 from the charity stripe and destroyed the Quakers on the glass with a huge 47-32 advantage including 19 offensive pulls which negated Penn's 45% marksmanship. Dalton Peppers paced four DD scorers with 19 pointsand nine boards followed by Will Cummings with 18 points who turned the ball over six times. Quenton DeCosey and Anthony Lee each tossed in 12 points with the latter hauling in a game high 12 rebounds.
Even though the Owls concern in the opener was scoring and experience neither was a problem. Kent State is supposed to be one of the elite in the MAC and if true I'll take a shot with the points...
