The South Carolina Gamecocks square off with the #25 Baylor Bears in an early Tuesday bout.
South Carolina wasn't particularly strong in any one area last season so they were likely chomping at the bit to face an over matched Longview squad. The result was an 82-44 rout and any thing less would have been considered a disaster. Disaster was avoided with the Gamecocks ahead 37-15 at the break behind 49% from the floor while clamping down on the Lancers offense who hit at just 23%. USC owned the backboards 48-24 and had an advantage throughout the boxscore. Tyrone Johnson scored a game best 18 points in 24 minutes with Sindarius Thornwell and Brenton Williams tossing in 14 points each with Michael Carrera adding 12 points and nine rebounds.

Baylor looks locked and loaded for another huge season but whether they can topple the Jayhawks and other Big 12 powers remains to be seen. The Bears certainly didn't have a problem dispatching Colorado 72-60 on opening day behind a stiffling defense that limited the Buffaloes to a mere 33% from the field and 2-19 from long range. The Bears didn't torch the nets at 44% but didn't have too with the way Colorado struggled to make shots. Defense was the key along with some opffensive ballance that produce four double figure scorers. Kenny Chery paced the attack with 14 points with Cory Jefferson adding 13 points and eleven rebounds while Brady Heslip and Taurean Prince contributed 12 and ten points respectively with Prince grabbing eight boards.
If Baylor plays as capable this could be a blowout because I don't think South Carolina is real strong. Early in the year it's tough to get a read on teams so I'll side with the points but not thrilled...
