Two teams looking for their first win of the season face off on Tuesday Morning as the Florida-Gulf Coast Eagles take on the Hartford Hawks.
It was tough to not get excited by the Florida-Gulf Coast Eagles last season as they made their dramatic and unexpected bracket busting run through the NCAA Tournament but now they have the unenviable task of following that up. Florida-Gulf Coast didn’t get off to the start they hoped this season as they were blown out of the building in their opener in Lincoln against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jamail Jones led FGC with 17 points and eight rebounds, Bernard Thompson had 12 points, and Filip Cvjeticanin had 10 points. Overall Florida Gulf Coast shot 44.2 percent from the floor, hit 40 percent of their three-point shots, and were just 52.4 percent from the free throw line, a number they will need to improve on.

The Hartford Hawks took a huge lead into the half in their opening game against Quinnipiac as they were up by 11 points but they were outscored by 16 points in the second half as they took the loss. Yolonzo Moore II scored 22 points, had four rebounds, and three steals to lead Hartford. Mark Nwakamma had 21 points and five rebounds. The big story for Hartford was on the boards where they were outrebounded 41-26. Hartford shot 42.9 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 59.3 percent from the free throw line.
Florida Gulf Coast is 6-0 against the spread in their last six home games, 4-1 against the spread following a loss, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Hartford is 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a losing record.
While Nebraska isn’t the class of the Big Ten they are a team who was greatly improved over the second part of last season so while FCG’s lass was a bad one, well it could have come to a worse team. The bigger issue for the Eagles is they are now a know commodity so getting a fair line might be difficult at least over the short term.
