The Indiana Hoosiers and the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds face off in a college basketball matchup of two NCAA Tournament teams from last season.
The Indiana Hoosiers lost most of the talent from the team they had much success with over recent years but that doesn’t mean the cupboard is bare in Bloomington. Indiana opened their season blowing out Chicago State leading by 19 at halftime and then emptying the bench and stretching out the lead from there. Jeremy Hollowell led the Hoosiers with 16 points, four rebounds, and four blocks and Troy Williams had 13 points. Will Sheehey played a lot last season and he had 10 points and nine rebounds and will be one of the players IU will be counting on for leadership. Noah Vonleh had 11 points and 14 rebounds, Troy Williams had 13 points, Devin Davis had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Kevin Ferrell had 11 points and six rebounds as 17 Indiana players made it onto the floor. Overall Indiana shot 45.8 percent but they were just 1 of 8 on three-pointers but they hit 81.8 percent of their free throws taking 55 foul shots in all.

The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds aren’t one of the more recognizable teams in America but they have been to the NCAA Tournament a couple of times now so they are starting to at least appear on the radar. LIU got there season started with a win against St. Peters where they took a seven point halftime lead and held it. Gerrell Martin was the high scorer for the Black Birds with 24 points and five rebounds and E.J. Reed has 17 points and six rebounds. Jason Brickman had 13 points, 14 assists, and six rebounds, Gilbert Parga had 13 points, and Landon Atterberry had 11 points. LIU shot 44.6 percent from the floor, 45.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and made 74.3 percent of their free throws. LIU Has not done well when they have been called upon to play stiffer competition.
Indiana is 0-5-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 1-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four non-Big Ten games. LIU Brooklyn is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games.
LIU just never seems to stand up against the better teams and in this spot they are going to get run over.
