Instate rivals the Ohio Bobcats and #10 Ohio State Buckeyes take the floor in Tuesday action.
Ohio lost some offense from a year ago and might have to rely on their defense more then we've seen in the past but they didn't seem to have a problem finding the bottom of the basket in their season opening 75-64 victory over Northern Iowa. The Bobcats jumped to a seven point lead at the break and held serve over the final 20 minutes behind 52% marksmanship including 11-23 on threes. The Panthers were held to 38.8% shooting and managed to stay within shouting distance with a 20-10 edge at the stripe. Ohio placed four starters in the DD scoring column led by Maurice Ndour with 20 followed by Nick Kellogg with 16 while Ricardo Johnson and Stevie Taylor added 14 and ten points respectively.
Perennial Big Ten and National Championship contender Ohio State opened the 2013-14 campaign with an easy 89-50 rout of Morgan State from the MEAC. This one was decided by the half with the Buckeyes leading 49-23 and never letting up. OSU connected at almost 48% while nailing eleven from long range while the Bears were limited to only 31% accuracy and 3-18 from beyond the arc. The Buckeyes also dominated the glass 52-31 and had five players score in double figures. Lenzelle Smith Jr tossed in a game high 18 points and grabbed nine boards with Shannon Scott next in line with 16 points and seven helpers. LaQuinton Ross and Sam Thompson added 14 points apiece and Marc Loving rounded out the top contributors with ten.
Let's not kid ourselves here because Ohio has no shot even though they are a decent MAC squad. A lot of points to give up and I'll take them but this is borderline shot in the dark...
