The Oakland Grizzlies shoot for the early season upset of the #23 UCLA Bruins Tuesday night.
The offense first Grizzlies ran in to a bigger offense in North Carolina and were saddled with an 84-61 defeat to open the year. Oakland has been known for their scoring ability through the years but once they fell behind 58-21 heading in to the locker room the handwriting was on the wall. The Tar Heels simply didn't miss with 60% shooting and the visitors were well off the pace at 36.4% with an 8-25 mark on three pointers. UNC also owned the glass 40-21 and had five double digit scorers compared to two for Oakland. Travis Bader paced the offense with 18 points in 39 minutes while Duke Mondy tossed in 14 with six pulls and six assists.

I'm sure the Bruins didn't quite know what to expect from Drexel on opening night except the Dragons were never at full strength a year ago and had all their weapons in this one. UCLA stormed to an eleven point lead after 20 minutes before holding off the Dragons 72-67 so they did have their hands full. The only real difference was Drexel shot poorly at 38% and the home team connected at 46%. The Dragons also were 14-20 from the line and UCLA 9-13 and I expected the Bruins to hold a big edge at the charity stripe. Jordan Adams led the attack with 16 points and five boards followed by David Wear and Zack Lavine added 14 points each while Kyle Anderson chipped in with 12 points and hauled down 12 rebounds.
If Oakland is trully in the middle of the pack in the Horizon UCLA should be able to put some points up and control the Grizzlies attack. Let's see if the so called experts are correct...
