The USC Trojans and the Cal-State Northridge Matadors face off on Tuesday Night in college basketball action.
The USC Trojans got off to a horrible start to their season as they were blown out by Utah State in their opener. USC trailed by seven at the half and it got worse from there as they lost by 13. J.T. Terrell had 20 points to lead the Trojans to scoring in the loss. Omar Oraby had 15 pointsand nine rebounds and Byron Wesley had 15 points and eight rebounds. Simply USC was awful shooting the basketball and they just couldn’t hit the shots. The Trojans shot 36.9 percent from the floor, they were 4 of 24 (16.7%) from beyond the three-point arc, and 81,2 percent from the three point line. With shooting percentages like USC had in their opener they will be hard pressed to have a successful season.

The Cal-State Northridge matadors opened their season with a soft opponent but more importantly they opened it with a win. CSU Northridge didn’t use much of their bench but they held a 15 point lead at the half of their first game and ended up winning by 12. Stephen Maxwell led the Matadors with 23 points and 12 rebounds and Stephan Hicks had 20 points and nine rebounds. Josh Greene had 16 points and five assists and Tre Hale Edmerson had 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and five steals. CSU Northridge shot 44.8 percent from the floor, 25 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 97 percent from the free throw line. This will be a big step up in competition for CSU.
USC is 9-24-1 against the spread following a loss, 1-3-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 against the spread in theirlast four non-Pac-12 games. CSU Northridge is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, 2-5 against the spread against the Pac-12, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games.
This game figures to be closer than the number and it could go either way so taking CSU as the dog here seems to be the play.
