The Tennessee Volunteers open the season with the Xavier Musketeers on Tuesday.
The experts are calling for a strong season from Tennessee which could be a death blow the way the so called experts are wrong. The Volunteers should be a force because of their rebounding prowess as they were tops in the league overall and the best on the offensive boards. The Vols do have experience and scoring potential to accompany their work on the glass with Jarnell Stokes leading the way with over 12 points and almost ten boards a year ago. Jeronne Maybin averaged nearly 13 points and eight pulls two years ago and will give the team a solid frontcourt. The backcourt does not look shabby either with Jordan McCrae bringing over 15 points back while Josh Barton has DD scoring potential.

Xavier hasn't been their normal tenacious selves the past few years and look to return to glory in 2013-14. The Musketeers have been known as a threat to any body, any where and would like to regain that swagger. Gardner-Webb proved to be no contest in the opener with the X-Men marching to an easy 83-59 victory behind dominant play at both ends of the floor. Xavier burned the nets at 53% and held the Bulldogs to 40% with a +19 on the backboards. While Gardner-Webb had one player break in to double figures in points the Musketeers received scoring from multiple sources. Semaj Christon pumped in 14 points with Matt Stainbrook adding 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while Brandon Randolph and and James Farr contributed 12 and ten points respectively.
This has the makings of a close and exciting contest and I'm tempted to take the points in a toss up where any body can win...
