The Indiana State Sycamores and Belmont Bruins square off Thursday with both shooting for win number two.
Indiana State is penciled in as one of the teams that could give Wichita State a run for their money in the Missouri Valley. The offense saved the Sycamores in an 82-73 decision over visiting Ball State. The defense was another matter with the Cardinals connecting at 53% and going 7-15 from long range but ISU was even better at 56% accuracy and a 9-16 performance on bombs which was key. Dawon Cummings was the leading scorer with 21 points on 7-10 shooting with Jake Odum checking in with a 17 point, seven assist efort while Manny Arop added 14 points and Justin Grant eleven. Overall, eleven players saw the floor and nine landed in the scoring column.

Belmont slipped by Lipscomb in their opener but couldn't duplicate the feat in a 69-61 loss to Richmond as a six point dog. Both teams struggled to find the shooting touch with around 41% from the field. Most of the shooting woes came with an almost stubborn attempt to establish a long range game that never materialized with a combined 7-39. In the end the Spiders can thank their work at the foul line for the win where they out scored Belmont 18-11. The Bruins weren't explosive offensively but they were balanced with Drew Windler and Blake Jenkins each tossing in 13 points and combining for 15 rebounds while Nick Smith added ten followed by nine points apiece from Reece Chamberlain and Evan Bradds.
If Indiana State is supposed to give Wichita State a run for their money shouldn't they be able to go toe to toe with Belmont? According to the experts they should and I'm not sure about either team yet...
