The Stanford Cardinal and the Northwestern Wildcats face off on Thursday Night for a Pac-12 vs. Big Ten college basketball battle.
The Stanford Cardinal haven’t had an easy start to the season and are coming off of a loss in a game where they scored over 100 points. Stanford pulled off a four point win over Bucknell in their opener but then they fell to BYU by nine points in their last game. Chasson Randle leads Stanford averaging 25.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Dwight Powell averages 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, Anthony Brown averages 15 points and five rebounds, and John Gage averages 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Stanford is averaging 87 points per game and they are shooting 46.9 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 74.5 percent from the free throw line. Stanford was favored in their loss to BYU so they will need to bounce back in a hurry for this one.
USA TODAY Sports
The Northwestern Wildcats head West after opening their season with a win. Northwestern led Eastern Illinois by four points at the half and then were able to extend the lead winning by 17 in the end. Drew Crawford led Northwestern with 25 points and 11 rebounds after missing the bulk of last season after having surgery. JerShon Cobb had nine points and eight assists, Dave Sobolewski had nine points and five rebounds, and Sanjay Lumpkin had nine points. Northwestern shot 46.5 percent from the floor, 47.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 75.9 percent from the free throw line in the winning effort.
Stanford is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games, 0-5 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 0-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Northwestern is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 0-5 against the spread following a game in which they covered the point spread.
Stanford is favored by 10 and that just seems at least four points too many for this matchup so I will take the underdog here, Northwestern.
