The Washington Huskies and the UC Irvine Anteaters face off on Thursday in Washington in college basketball action.
The Washington Huskies always seem to be a physically tough team and they are hoping this year they are more than that in a rejuvenated Pac-12. Washington started their season with a 10-point win over Seattle in a game they led by nine points at the half. C.J. Wilcox led UW with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Andrew Andrews had 21 points and four assists, Darin Johnson had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Mike Anderson had 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Washington shot 41 percent from the floor, 25 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 80.5 percent from the free throw line.

The UC Irvine Anteaters are still looking for their first win of the season though they have been close in both of their first two games. UC Irvine opened the season with a one-point overtime loss to Fresno State and then lost by five points to Pacific. Chris McNealy leads the Anteaters with 21 points per game and 4.5 rebounds. Alex Young averages 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, Will Davis II averages 11 points and 9.5 rebounds, and Luke Nelson averages 9.5 points. UC Irivine has hit on 50.4 percent of their shots from the floor, 40.5 percent of their three-point shots, and 56.5 percent of their free throws. The Anteaters will need to convert at a higher free throw percentage if they expect to win this one.
Washington is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, 1-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 5-0 against the spread in their last five Thursday games. UC Irvine is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games against the Pac-12, 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 road games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games.
UC Irvine hasn’t gotten wins but they have been close and Washington was less than stellar in their opener but I expect the Huskies to win out on talent alone here and have no issue covering the number though it is a bit on the high side.
