The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks visit the Southern Cal Trojans in West Coast action Friday.
Northern Arizona has been something of an after thought in the Big Sky for quite awhile although there is some talent on the roster in 2013-14. Does that mean the Lumberjacks will make an impact in the conference? I'll take a wait and see attitude on that one especially after seeing them dismantled 88-68 by Texas Tech. Not really much to say except NAU did well on the scoreboard despite 42% shooting. Of course the Red Raiders did a whole lot better on 58% marksmanship including a 12-22 perfomance from distance. Max Jacobsen led the attack with 15 points and seven pulls with Quinton Upshur adding 14 while Aaseem Dixon and Kris Yanku combined for 21 points.

Points have been a precious commodity for Southern Cal the past several years so when the offense puts points on the board the game has to go in to the win column. The Trojans did just that with a 95-79 victory over CSU Northridge but the trick will be duplicating this performance over and over to become a factor in the PAC 12. The Trojans connected at a blistering 57% pace while holding the Matadores to a mere 33% which was the key. Points were plentiful with Omar Oraby leading the way with 17 points with anoth 16 coming from Byron Wesley who also hauled down eleven rebounds. Nikola Jovanovic chipped in with eleven with three others tossing in between 8-9 points. Altogether 12 players received minutes and every one scored.
I don't think Northern Arizona has a chance here but if they have the talent that I have heard about then a cover is possible. I actually don't care for them right now but I'm not accustomed to seeing positive results from this team so we shall see...
