The Butler Bulldogs and Princeton Tigers take the floor in an Ivy League versus Big East bout.
It has been rare when Princeton has not been picked to challenge for the Ivy League crown as most have this team fighting to crack the top four. School is still out for me as far as predicting what this team does but I have learned from past experience not to underestimate the Tigers. A 67-50 season opening victory over Florida A&M was a mixed bag with the Rattlers stymied on 32.7% shooting. The Tigers connected at just 39% which was the mixed bag part because they held a 12-1 edge on threes, made their free throws and rbounded well. Denton Koon tossed in a game high 17 points and ripped down eleven rebounds with Jimmy Sherburne adding 13 and Will Barrett 12.

The question for Butler is what can we expect in their inaugeral season in the Big East? For those of us counting this is the team's third conference in as many years and with some familiar faces departed it's a mystery year. Things have started nicely with an 89-58 decision over Lamar which was expected but doesn't tell us a whole lot. Lamar hit shots at a 43% pace which fell well short of the Bulldogs red hot 54% marksmanship. Butler dominated the glass and forced 13 turnovers which gave them 14 more shots which the Cardinals needed. Khyle Marshall poured in 19 points and hauled down 13 rebounds with Lellen Dunham adding 13 while Kameron Woods and Erik Fromm tossed in eleven and ten points with Woods grabbing seven boards.
It's difficult to get a feel for many teams early in the year and a little more so between teams that have several new faces. I think Butler wins and could win by a lot but these two seem more similar then different so I'll take the points...
