The Green Bay Phoenix square off with instate rival the #19 Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday.
Wisconsin is in a familiar position in that they are ranked in the top 25 and are a threat to win the Big Ten title. The Badgers didn't hurt their standing with a 2-0 jump from the gate following a 59-53 decision over always tough Florida. The trademark Wisky defense was at it's best with the Gators offense held to just 40% shooting while connecting at almost 44% themselves. The difference was Wisconsin owned a 9-5 advantage from the perimeter. Sam Dekker led a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points with Traevon Jackson tossing in 13 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Ben Brust checked in with eleven points while Frank Kaminsky and Nigel Hayes totaled eight points each.

Green Bay has been labeled as one of the major players in the Horizon with a better then average defense leading the way. Seeing is believing in what is always a competitive conference especially with Butler gone. Even though the Phoenix hammered Northern Michigan 71-49 we didn't really learn anything about this team who clearly were facing an out manned squad. NMU was held to an anemic 30% accuracy with Green Bay hitting shoys at nearly a 44% pace. There was room for improvement as the Phoenix won the battle at the stripe 15-7 even though they hit only 15-29 which is a ton of points to leave on the floor. Vincent Garrett was tops in the scoring department with 15 points with Keifer Sykes, Alec Brown and Carrington Love each scoring ten points with Brown grabbing eight rebounds.
Very intersting line with a long rivalry that Green Bay never wins although they do cover against the Badgers and have a decent team. I have seen stranger things happen...
