The Northwestern Wildcats and the Illinois State Redbirds face off on Sunday Night in Evanston in college basketball action.
The Northwestern Wildcats are off to a 1-1 start to the season as they are still looking for their first appearance ever in the NCAA Tournament. Northwestern opened the season with a 17-point win over Eastern Illinois and followed that up by losing at Stanford. Drew Crawford is back and he is averaging 20 points and 8.5 rebounds. JerShon Cobb is averaging 14 points and 5 assists, and Tre Demps and Dave Sobolewski are averaging 7.5 points per game each. Northwestern in averaging 65 points per game and they are shooting 42.3 percent from the floor, 40.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 70 percent from the free throw line.

The Illinois State Redbirds are off to an 0-2 start as they look for their first win of the season. ISU opened with a 38-point loss at VCU and then lost by eight at home against Drexel. Zach Lofton is the only Illinois State player who is averaging double digits in scoring at 11.5 points per game. Paris Lee is averaging 9.5 points, Bobby Hunter is averaging 8.5 points, and Michael Middlebrooks is averaging 8.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. Illinois State is averaging 64 points per game shooting 32 percent from the floor, 20.9 percent from beyond the 3-pint arc, and 66.1 percent from the free throw line.
Northwestern is 2-5 against the spread following a loss. Illinois State is 4-10 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games.
Northwestern is a big favorite here but Illinois State hasn’t shown they can compete so I will lay the points.
