The Arizona Wildcats and the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights face off on Monday Night in in the college basketball’s NIT.
The Arizona Wildcats are off to a 3-0 start and are coming off of a big win on the road against a very good San Diego State team. Arizona opened with Cal Poly then blew out Long Beach State before the win over SDSU and Sean Miller’s team is thinking National Championship. Nick Johnson is Arizona’s leading scorer averaging 16 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. T.J. McConnell is averaging 6.7 assists, Aaron Gordon is averaging 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, Brandon Ashley is averaging 11 points and 7.3 rebounds, and Gabe York averages 10 points and 4.0 rebounds. As a team Arizona is averaging 77.7 points per game whole shooting 53.2 percent from the floor, 36.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 63.4 percent from the free throw line while allowing 59.7 points per game as their opponents shoot just 32.9 percent. Arizona is going to be a handful this season and in this early season tournament.

Fairleigh Dickinson has lost their last two games and they are in another real tough spot here as they are simply outmanned across the board. FDU opened with a win over Caldwell but have since lost to Hofstra and Hartford in one-sided games. Mustafaa Jones is the leader statistically for FDU as he is averaging 12.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Sidney Sanders Jr. is averaging 12 points and 4.7 rebounds, Mathias Seilund is averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds, and Malachi Nix is averaging 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds. FDU is averaging 59 points and they are shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, 36.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 58.6 percent from the free throw line while allowing 75 points per game as their opponents shoot 8.7 percent. This looks to be the toughest game on the schedule for the Knights.
Arizona is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight home games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, and 5-1 against the spread in their last six games. Farleigh Dickenson is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six non-conference games.
Arizona can name their number here but they are going to have to make it a big one if they hope to cover and I don’t see that being the case as they have games on back to back nights so likely they are going deep into their bench here against an FDU team that can put up a reasonable enough number.
