The Line: North Dakota State Bison -5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The North Dakota State Bison play host to the Southern Mississippi Eagles in a key out of conference matchup on Monday night.
The Bison are 26-10 ATS in their last 36 non-conference games, but just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Golden Eagles on the other hand are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 road games and 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
The North Dakota State Bison come into tonight's game with a 1-1 record to start the season after falling at Saint Mary's last Thursday 78-65. After opening their season with a comfortable 93-49 victory over Viterbo (non-division 1,) the Bison found the going tough in their first road game of the season, struggling to contain the Gaels players as they shot 53 percent from the floor, compared to North Dakota who shot 44 percent which included going just 1-13 from beyond the arc. Taylor Braun has been the early standout from the Bison as the senior guard has averaged 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5 assists and two steals through two games.
For Southern Miss, a team who won 27 games last season and reached the quarterfinals of the NIT, it's been a solid start to the season with two straight wins. After getting a scare by Jacksonville State in their season opener, the Golden Eagles then hit the road to face DePaul in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, where they would come away with an impressive 75-68 victory. Southern Miss did start a player taller than 6-7, yet finished with a 36-29 rebounding advantage over the Blue Demons, who started three players taller than 6-7.
This is a massive game for the Bison whose last big out of conference home opponent was Kansas State all the way back in 2006. Nevertheless, this is a very impressive Golden Eagles squad that will likely finish in the top two in Conference USA this season. I think Southern Miss' pressure will get NDSU and while I'm not sure they win, the points look GOLDEN...
