The Penn State Nittany Lions host the La Salle Explorers in a non conference tilt on Tuesday.
La Salle opened the year with an overtime loss to Manhattan which I didn't expect which they followed with a pair of close wins. The Explorers out scored Siena 78-74 despite poor shooting against a team predicted to finish in the middle of the MAAC. La Salle only hit at 37.5% while the Saints were burning the nets at over 48% so how did the better shooting team lose? The Explorers turned 24 fouls in to a decisive 24-5 advantage. Tyreek Duren led the attack with 20 points with Jerrell Wright added 15 points and eleven rebounds followed by Sam Mills and Tyrone Garland with 13 and eleven points.

Penn State is still supposed to be rebuilding or what ever phrase they want to call it. I call it playing better which is tough to say if that's fact or not so soon in the early going. A 2-1 record is better then 1-2 but I still need to see more from this team to decide what is going on. The Nittany Lions disposed of Penn 83-71 behind a near flawless first half that saw them lead 47-24. PSU rode nearly 54% from the floor while the Quakers connected at 41.7% which proved to be the winning state because it equated to nine more makes. Tim Frazier was the offensive star of the game with 29 points and seven helpers with DJ Newbill tossing in 19 points and grabbing six boards followed by Brandon Taylor and Allen Roberts who combined for 17 points.
I'm not real sure about either team although if I had to choose I would say La Salle has been less impressive. For now I'll grab the points and hope for more while I watch the line...
