The Texas El Paso Miners host the Colorado State Rams in a Tuesday night tilt.
After watching Colorado State get dismantled at Gonzaga by a whopping 32 points I wasn't sure what we would see when the Rams squared off with Big Sky favorite Weber State. It turns out that CSU might not have been as bad as they looked versus the Zags after an 88-67 thumping of the Wildcats. Colorado State jumped to a 14 point lead at the break and never looked back with nearly 54% marksmanship leading the way. Weber State checked in at under 44% which was key with the Rams hitting shots and totaling ten more looks. JJ Avilia was a force with 30 points, seven pulls and six helpers with Daniel Bejarno adding 18 points and nine boards while Gerson Santo and Joe De Ciman combined for 21.

Texas El Paso has been billed as one of the top teams in the CUSA and I think we might know if that is an accurate assessment by how the non conference schedule plays out. The Miners didn't have any problem in handling West Alabama and shouldn't of had. UTEP defeated the Tigers 67-46 behind nearly 49% from the floor while their sub division foe was stymied on an anemic 24.7%. The Miners not only shot the ball better but also held an 18-4 margin at the charity stripe despite the Tigers amassing 28 more looks. UTEP had too many scoring options with Vince Hunter dropping 14 points and hauling in nine rebounds with McKenzie Moore tossing in 12 points and snaring six boards while the trio of Tevin Caldwell, Cedrick Lang and CJ Cooper combining for 30 points.
This is a dangerous spot for Colorado State who might have gotten some confidence back after beating Weber State. I think UTEP covers if they get out to an early lead but I'm going with the points in a close one...hopefully.
