The Northwestern Wildcats look to even their record against the Illinois-Chicago Flames.
There are a lot of teams that I need to see play more before I can get a feel for them and Northwestern is one of them. I do know their 68-64 loss to Illinois State was not a good performance at all. The Wildcats fell behind by 18 points heading in to the locker room before a second half rally fell short. There was really not much difference throughout the boxscore with Redbirds sinking a few more shots which was the final margin. NW struggled to 37% from the floor and finished with three DD scorers with JerShon Cobb pouring in a game high 19 points with Drew Crawford connecting for 13 points and grabbing seven boards while Tre Kemps added 12 points.

Illinois-Chicago hasn't garnered many accolades in the preseason and are projected to finish in the bottom third of the Horizon. I'm not ready to go along with the so called experts but things certainly didn't look good in their 86-66 loss to Eastern Illinois. The Panthers led 40-27 after 20 minutes and never took their foot off the gas pedal. The bottom line is UIC is not a big offense and has to control the scoreboard to be successful. The defense let the team down with EIU torching the nets at 57% with the offense unable to keep up with their 40% accuracy. More threes and more free throws by the Panthers meant a loss for the Flames with points a bit difficult to come by. Marc Brown paced the offense with 20 points with Jordan Harks adding 13 points and eight boards while Kelsey Barlow tossed in 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out seven assists.
Right now both teams are in search of some identity and whether they find it going forward remains to be seen. I am looking at laying the points with the Wildcats and it isn't a good feeling doing that...
