The Kansas State Wildcats and the Charlotte 49ers kickoff a full day off college basketball action on Thursday when they meet in San Juan in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off
The Kansas State Wildcats got off to a rough start to the their season losing their opener to Northern Colorado at home as 12.5 point favorites. KSU bounced back winning their next two games but Bruce Webber’s team still has plenty to prove if they hope to compete in a difficult Big 12 this season. Marcus Foster leads Kansas State averaging 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. D.J. Johnson is averaging 10 points and 5.7 rebounds, Shane Southwell is averaging 9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, and Will Spradling is averaging 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. As a team Kansas State is averaging 66.7 points and they are shooting 41.7 percent from the floor, 25.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 61.5percent from the free throw line while defensively their opponents average 60.3 points per game and shoot 39.2 percent from the floor. Kansas State just doesn’t appear to be getting it done o the boards despite winning their last two.

The Charlotte 49ers are off to a 2-1 start and with a schedule that looks to come up fairly soft these out of conference games are going to have a big impact if they hope to land in the post season. Charlotte had comfortable wins over East Tennessee State and Elon but Alan Major’s squad took a tough one-point loss at College of Charleston. Shawn Lester is averaging 17.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists to lead the 49ers. Pierria Henry is averaging 17 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 4.7 steals per game, Terrence Williams is averaging 14 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals, Mike Thorne is averaging 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, and Willie Clayton averages 13 points and 9.7 rebounds. Charlotte is averaging 81.7 points and they are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor, 23.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 70.5 percent from the free throw line. Charlotte doesn’t appear to have a ton of depth but their front line players all can contribute in a big way.
Kansas State is 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four games, 1-3-1 against the spread following a win, and 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games. Charlotte is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games, 3-1-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 11-5-1 against the spread against a team with a winning percentage higher than .600.
I see it as the wrong team is favored here and I look for Charlotte to win comfortably.
