The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Wofford Terriers face off on Thursday in college basketball action.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are off to a 4-0 start to the season winning by double digits in every game. Minnesota has played the 125th ranked schedule but it will certainly get tougher after the New Year for Richard Pitino’s team. Andre Hollins leads the Gophers averaging 21.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Austin Hollins averages 12 points and 7.8 rebounds, Joey King averages 10.8 points, and Deandre Mathieu averages 9.5 points and 5.8 assists. Minnesota averages 80.2 points per game and they are shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, 34 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 73.3 percent from the free throw line while defensively they allow 62.8 points and their opponents shoot 40.9 percent. Minnesota faces a stiff test in their next game as they take on Syracuse but they better not look too far ahead.

The Wofford Terriers have put some teams in the NCAA tournament in recent years but coming off of a losing season last year the Terriers don’t look much better this year. Wofford has started the season 1-2 and both of their losses were by 20 or more points. Spencer Collins is averaging 16.7 points and 3.7 rebounds to lead the Terriers. Karl Cochran is averaging 10.3 points and 3.0 rebounds, Justin Gordon is averaging 8.0 points, and Lee Skinner is averaging 7.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. Wofford is averaging 53.5 points per game and they are shooting 40 percent from the floor, 22.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 70.4 percent from the free throw line while defensively they are allowing 74 points per game and their opponents are shooting 45.1 percent. Wofford as been beaten up on the boards as well as simply shooting poorly.
Minnesota is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four home games, 4-1 against the spread against the Southern Conference, and 7-3 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Wofford is 3-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 road games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four non-conference games.
Minnesota is favored by a big number here but they should win very easily, it Is just a matter of how well the Gophers bench plays as they should see significant minutes here and their play will affect the cover. I still see Minnesota winning by 20 or more.
