The UConn Huskies and the Indiana Hoosiers face off on Friday in New York City for a college basketball matchup of ranked teams.
The UConn Huskies needed every bit of effort on Thursday to hold off Boston College in their opening round game. UConn led by three at the half but were never able to put away the Eagles. Ryan Boatright was the hero on Thursday coming up with a block and nailing two free throws all part of his nine points, five rebounds and four assists. DeAndre Daniels had 23 points and six rebounds, Shabazz Napier had 20 points and four rebounds, and Omar Calhoun had nine points. UConn shot just 39.3 percent from the floor and 21.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc but they kept the rebound battle pretty even. The Huskies were fortunate that BC shot just 39.6 percent or the outcome could have been different.

The Indiana Hoosiers had little trouble with Washington in their opening round game taking a 13-point lead into the half and then extending it. While Indiana has a different look than last year’s team there is no shortage of talent on the roster. Troy Williams had 22 points and eight rebounds on Thursday to lead the Hoosiers. Noel Vonieh had 18 points and nine rebounds, Will Sheehy had 16 points and five assists, and Yogi Ferrell had 20 points and five assists. Indiana shot 51.5 percent from the floor and obliterated UW on the boards outrebounding the Huskies 50-29.
UConn is 4-0 against the spread following a game in which they didn’t cover the point spread, 5-1 against the spread following a win, and 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games. Indiana is 6-2 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread, 19-8-1 against the spread in their last 28 non-Big Ten games, and 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games.
The line for this one is at two with the Hoosiers favored and the total is set at 160. I look for it to be bombs away and 160 shouldn't be an issue for the total and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
