The #25 Iowa Hawkeyes play host to the Penn Quakers in Friday night college basketball action.
I know Penn was hoping for something better then a 1-2 start to the 2013-14 campaign but their defense has been giving up too many points thus far. The Quakers have been able to put the ball in the basket but an 83-71 loss to Penn State proved you can score and still come up short. Penn lost this one in the first half where they were down 23 before a spirited second half rally wasn't enough. The Nittany Lions burned the nets at nearly 54% which equated to nine more makes which made the Quakers 41.7% shooting a non factor. Penn received 21 points from Darien Nelson-Henry along with five yanks while Fran Dougherty and Tony Hicks added 14 points apiece but points were scarce beyond this trio.

Iowa has climbed in to the number 25 spot with their 4-0 run out of the gates which surprises me given their #269 strength of schedule. The Hawkeyes broke the century barrier in points for the second time in a 103-41 rout of Abilene Christian in a game that was in the win column soon after the opening tip. The boxscore was dominated by Iowa who connected at over 62% from the field while limiting Wildcats to a mere 26%. The Hawkeyes forced 17 turnovers and had six more shots and when the dust settled had sank 20 more baskets. Roy-Devyn Marble led all scorers with 27 points with Peter Jok tossing in 17 while Zach McCabe and Gabriel Olaseni contributen ten points each. Three others scored between 7-9 points with 12 players finding the scoring column overall.
At this point I am leaning to the mind set that Penn is not very good and they are facing a much superior Iowa squad on the road. Seems like a blow out in the making but the dog in me won't lay the points and would rather look else where...
