The Long Beach State 49ers square off with the VCU Rams in the Puerto Rico Tip Off.
Long Beach State might be one of the top teams in the Big West but they ran in to a buzzsaw called Michigan who scored early and often in a 85-62 victory in the Puerto Rico Tip Off. The Wolverines simply did not miss much with 53% shooting overall including a 14-30 mark from long range. That was too much for the 49ers offense to over come with their 45% accuracy with 16 giveaways leading to seven more looks for the hot shooting Wolverines. AJ Spencer and Mike Caffey led the Long Beach attack with 12 points each with Caffey handing out five helpers while Branford Jones connected for eleven points.

Virginia Commonwealth is accustomed to dishing out the punishment but they had the tables turned on them in an 85-67 loss to Florida State in the Puerto Rico Tip Off. The Seminoles were not picked very high in the ACC but the experts might have to change their tune if this team duplicates this performance. The Rams ferocious defense had no bite with FSU firing away at almost 54% with VCU countering with 29.7% which negated a whopping 23 more looks at the basket. Traveon Graham led the Rams with 14 points followed by a ten point effort from Rob Brandenberg while Juvonte Reddic and Melvin Johnson combined for 17 points.
Both teams were handled easily which was a surprise for Virginia Commonwealth who were a non factor. The question here is which team is more capable of bouncing back and I wouldn't be in a hurry to back either after what we saw Thursday. No line out yet so I have time to think about it...
