The Michigan Wolverines and the Florida State Seminoles face off on Friday in San Juan in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
The Michigan Wolverines made quick work of Long Beach State on Thursday leading at the half and then driving the dagger hoe for the first round tournament win. While UM’s first round opponent ended up soft it certainly won’t be the same for them in this one. Nik Stauskas is averaging 19 points and 4.0 assists and he is coming off of a 24 point effort to lead Michigan. Caris LaVert is averaging 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, Glenn Robinson III is averaging 13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.8 steals, and Derrick Walton Jr. is averaging 10 points and three rebounds. Michigan shot a blazing 53.4 percent on Thursday including 46.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc scoring 85 points. After losing to Iowa State in their prior game the Wolverines looked focused on Thursday.

The Florida State Seminoles pulled of on of the several big upsets on Thursday knocking off the VCU Rams in their opening round game. FSU led by 12 at the half and extended their lead winning by 18. Ian Miller is averaging 17 points this season and he came up big against VCU scoring 22 and grabbing seven rebounds. Devin Bookert scored 18 points, two points above his season average , Okkaro White had 14 points and nine rebounds, and Montay Brandon had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Florida State shot 53.7 percent from the floor and 30.8 percent from beyond the thee-point arc while holding VCU to just 29.3 percent shooting and dominating the boards outrebounding the Rams 50-34.
Michigan is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 neutral site games, and 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Florida State is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games, 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games, and 0-6 against the spread against the Big Ten.
This one should be tight and come right down to the wire and I look for the Semioles to cover at worst.
