The North Carolina Tarheels look to rebound from a frustrating 83-80 loss to Belmont last Sunday when they face Richmond in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.
The upset broke the Tarheels’ string of 82 consecutive home wins against unranked non-conference opponents dating back 11 years to 2002 and UNC plummeted 12 spots to #24 in the rankings as a result. UNC shot 48 percent from the field on 28 of 58 from the floor, 28 percent from distance and made just 22 of 48 from the line. Junior 6-9 F James Michael McAdoo had a career-high 27 points and grabbed 13 boards, but hit just 11 of 19 from the free throw line. Further illustrating North Carolina's troubles from the line, 6-5 sophomore F J.P. Tokoto, who had 8 points and 9 rebounds, missed 8 consecutive free throws at one point. The Tarheels were also far from solid on defense, allowing the Bruins to shoot 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The Richmond Spiders come into the game 3-1 and off of a 74-63 overtime victory over Hofstra Tuesday. Senior 6-6 F Derrick Williams forced the extra time with a three-point play at the end of regulation and Richmond outscored the Pride 16-5 in OT for the win. Senior G Cedrick Lindsay had a team-high 26 points on 10 of 19 from the field, made 2 of 4 from distance and added 4 assists. Junior 5-8 G Kendall Anthony had 18 points on 42 percent from the field and made 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. As a team, Richmond shot 40 percent from the field, 30 percent from distance and hit 14 of 26 from the line.
UNC is a 7.5 favorite in this one and you have to figure their still reeling from the Belmont loss. This is a better team than their 24th ranking, particularly when P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald rejoin the team. For now though, the Tar Heels get the lean straight up, but Richmond and the points are the play here.
