The Davidson Wildcats and the New Mexico Lobos face off on Sunday in Charleston on Sunday as they close out their play in the Charleston Tip-Off Tournament.
The Davidson Wildcats got their first win of the season with their first round win over Georgia but on Friday they were no match for Clemson as they were blown out by the Tigers. Davidson trailed Clemson by 10 points at the half and then were outscored by 21 in the second half. De’Mon Brooks is the guy Davidson relies on to lead them and he is coming off of a 12-point and 4 rebounds performance where he was 0 for 3 beyond the 3-point arc. Chris Czerapowicz ad 14 points and 4 rebounds, Tyler Kalinoski had 8 points and 4 rebounds, and Brian Sullivan had 6 points. Davidson shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and the Wildcats were obliterated on the boards. Davidson hasn’t looked like the team we are accustomed to seeing but they still should be able to get it together once SoCon play starts.

The New Mexico Lobos beat UAB in double overtime on Friday hitting a few big shots to extend the game but on Friday they didn’t have the chance as they lost to UMass in a one side game. The Lobos trailed by five at halftime and then were outscored by another 11 in the second half. Alex Kirk had a huge game scoring 32 points and grabbing 11 points for UNM. Kendall Williams had 13 points, Cameron Bairstow had 8 points, and Deshawn Delaney had 6 points. New Mexico shot just 39.1 percent from the floor and 27.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and New Mexico was dominated on the boards as well. New Mexico will need to bounce back in a hurry from what had to be a disturbing loss.
Davidson is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, 9-4 against the spread following a loss, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games. New Mexico is 5-1 against the spread following a loss, 6-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four non-conference games.
This is a big number but this isn’t the Davidson team we are used to seeing and I am going to take New Mexico who is just too big.
